Joe Rogan Experience
Westboro Baptist Church
It’s a 2 hour episode (I know, who has the time for that?) but it’s a fascinating discussion with one of daughters of the Phelps family (Westboro Baptist Church). They cover basically everything you’d ever want to know. From WBC’s motivation and ideology, to how she got out, DMT (of course it’s Joe Rogan), and a bit of Weird Al Yankovic for comic relief.

Heaven's Gate
Heaven's Gate
This is a small stand alone mini-series but they interview former HG members (oh wow), family members, and victims of the cult. If you only know about the UFOs, Kool-Aid and the Nike stuff then you don’t know enough so start here.

Last Podcast on The Left
Jonestown
Jonestown, Jim Jones (not a member of Dipset), another Kool-Aid mass murder/suicide cult situation that’s been covered through and through has never been covered like this. Three comedians trying to explain the People’s Temple to each other while cracking bad jokes in this 5 part series.

Oh No Ross and Carrie
Scientology
Wilson is only level 2 Thetan (aka Operating Thetan) and I’m trying to meet Xenu real hard. But this episode of 9 parts has the hosts signing up for scientology, going through the whole process, and then get kicked out. Don’t be an SP y’all, listen to this to abolish your ‘Reactive Mind’

Cults
Waco
Can’t do a cult issue without the Waco’s so this is a short and sweet 2 part series about the whole thing starting with David Koresh’s childhood to the aftermath of the siege. More importantly, this particular podcast actually has a bunch of episodes that explores the less mainstream cults like Raelism (another UFO cult) and Leopard Society (they dress in leopard skins and kill people…)
Cults are just facebook groups

Cults are always a crowd pleaser and they’re fascinating because it’s both simultaneously relatable and unrelatable. At the root of it, everyone just wants to belong, to be a part of something bigger than themselves. But cult leaders hijack the best part of our humanity and overwrites it with the worst part of being a human. From the outside we all think we’re better than those who are in cults, but then we turn around and do the tide pod challenge. Really what’s the difference? Most of the episodes this week are part of a series so make sure you tap that button to get linked to the rest. Sidebar, check out the branding though. These cult leaders could’ve been great Creative Directors at an ad-agency, think about it!
