If you haven’t heard of 2 Dope Queens yet, then I’m not quite sure what to tell ya… Better get on it quick and this episode is a good place to start. Iliza Shlesinger and Fred Armisen drops in, and name drops Wilco. FYI, Jeff Tweedy is the frontman of Wilco.

Hosted either by Cameron Esposito or Rhea Butcher, in front of a UCB audience every week, they interview comedians on the who’s who’s and what’s whats of the comedy scene and then you get to hear some work in progress sets that I find more charming than polished ones.

I can only describe this show as comedic-surrealism because of how chaotic everything ends up even though the premise itself is simple. Tony Hinchcliffe and a couple of guest judges give a critique of a 60 second open-mic set. Then it turns into audio confetti that’s on fire. You’re going to belly up from the chaos.

Michelle Buteau aka The Original Dolezal, who also appears on 2 Dope Queens hosts her own comedy special in a similar format but more interview than straight stand-up. It doesn’t matter, she’s charming, hilarious, and a little filthy so it makes for a good time.

The “How I Built This” of comedy, this episode interviews John Mulaney (former SNL Head Writer and George St. Geegland) about his thought process when writing his set. In fact this entire series is great so after you finish this one, make sure you check out the rest. Just hit that apple button.
